This is the official Substack for Extreme Precision Industrial Contractors. I plan using the platform to chronical the work we do. Hopefully for all it will be educational and a little fun along the way. Our company predominantly works in Power Plant Facilities and other facilities that surround that industry. Chemical plants, Refineries, and occasionally mining sites.
We are a small company made up skilled tradesmen and women that perform mechanical maintenance and construction. We are Millwrights, Welders, Fabricators, Pipe Fitters, and Boilermakers.
As we start I would like to provide a definition for each tradecraft that we use. The first one we will look at is Millwright. What the hell is a Millwright? Well that is the question isn’t it? Many years ago as the trades were growing into there own, and we started to develop new ideas and technologies, the trades became more and more specialized. It really started with modern architecture, engineering and use more of our natural resources. Almost everyone knows what a Carpenter is, do you know the many subsets of specialized carpenters? We shall name a few:
Joiners- those carpenters who specialize in building without nails, joining wood together by means of cutting specialized joints and fits that are just as strong or in some cases stronger. This type of work is highlighted in Timber framed buildings that are very prevalent even today in Europe.
Shipwrights- those carpenters that specialized in crafting wooden, and now steel ships.
Cabinet and Furniture makers- that should be self explanatory, however they also became those that were ‘Trimmers or Finish carpenters, those that crafted the wonderful molding, trim work, and banister stair cases observed in many beautiful structures of the past.
Millwrights- Those who specialized in building mills. The Dutch wooden flour mills come to mind, or the beautiful water wheel driven mills of the past. Yes, that is Millwright work. From the building to the mechanism inside it driven by the wind, water, or even livestock. Millwrights work on everything from baggage handling, escalators, food processing equipment installations, all types of stationary equipment.
Pictured below is some of our bread and butter work. It is a B&W RPS 89 coal pulverizer.
